Saying Good-Bye

Derek's wonderful Grandma Mary passed away in early November. We headed to Clark, SD to say good-bye on November 12.

We left for South Dakota at about 5 the night before the funeral. We got to DeSmet at 1 or 2 in the morning. Julietta passed the time sleeping and pretending to watch movies. I think she might be in line for an Academy Award with faces like these!

Mary was a wonderful lady loved by many. The church overflowed with mourners. The luncheon afterward was packed with friends and family celebrating Mary's life.

Thinking of her always brings smiles to our faces. Grandma Mary had six children, thirteen grandchildren (I think!), and fifteen great grandchildren. She always prayed for us individually, remembered our special days with a phone call, hand written letter, and a special treat, and made us feel especially blessed. Her smile was a constant and was infectious.

After the funeral we headed back to Derek's parents house and played with cousins.

Once Derek's parents returned home we said our good-byes and headed home to Kansas.

The drive back was treacherous, but Derek got us safely home just in time for Jack's basketball game!
